Technology is a reality nowadays in the work place, for health issues and communication, in higher education and/or in training, that has also reached the classroom of the schools concerned with providing a quality education for the students of the future. This is the case of Saint George’s School whose innovative policy not only guides students towards developing creative thinking but also provides them with the necessary tools to put this into practice.
The School sees technology as an instrument that facilitates the acquisition of knowledge, communication, research, the resolution of problems and the development of creativity. Consequently, the School is now equipped with 3D Printers that will assist students and teachers alike by materializing their ideas and projects.
Ten 3D Printers have been installed for use with educational, practical and ethical guidelines under the direction of the IT Department. The teachers have likewise have been trained in the practical and creative designs of the different programmes.
The printers have had a positive effect on the students, changing their ideas in the face of different situations in the physical world. The students now have a means to find solutions while at the same time they can be creative and use their imagination. Furthermore, the printers have encouraged more collaboration and communication among the students, making the process of learning more fun as a group activity.
These printers are for the use of all who want to challenge today’s paradigms with an innovative instrument that is within the reach of all.
