In October 2019 we launched our 3D Advanced Creator Lab with 10 MakerBot printers. The purpose was to expand the creative and innovative skills of our students. But its main aim has been to develop a spirit of collaboration among the students in the quest for solutions that will benefit others. In this way ,we have been able to make our small contribution to support the medical staff who are fighting this pandemic.
In our 3D Lab we designed face masks that were given to the staff of the University Hospital Mederi and the Oncology Department of the San Ignacio Hospital in Bogotá.
Led by Fabian Jaramillo, our paramedic in the School Health Centre and with the collaboration of the IT Department, we printed 120 3D components that will go towards making 120 protective face masks.
The components were fashioned from of PLA Filament (polylactic acid) that is a biodegradable thermoplastic polyester) made from maize starch or sugar cane.
We are part of a big project that is seeking solutions to help keep healthcare workers safe. We are currently working on similar ventures.
In the SGS Community we have a feeling of solidarity that transcends the school. We are committed to getting through this together.
