For the second year running the 11th grade student, Alvaro Bacca is part of the team representing Colombia in the 32nd Online International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
Alvaro came second in three qualifying stages of the National Computing Olympiad organized by the Antonio Nariño University. In the first test, the students were judged on basic programming skills such as formula script, conditionals, character cycles and handling. Next, they had to resolve challenging problems in a creative way.
It is worth mentioning that each participating country selects a team of up to four contestants with a team leader and a deputy leader who take part in the two day competition. Each contestant competes on an individual basis by resolving three algorithmic problems within five hours.
This competition is one of the five international science Olympiads held annually and is one of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world. IOI will be hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) School of Computing. It is powered by ACER and supported by The Ministry of Education of Singapore (MOE) and the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau. (SECB).
This year because of the Covid- 19 worldwide pandemic, the Olympiad will be held on line.
We are very proud of Alvaro and wish him success in this new challenge.
