World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the global water crisis.  It focuses on the support necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of Water and Sanitation for all by 2030.

This year’s theme is about the meaning of water to everyone. It has an incalculable value for households, food, culture, health, education, economics, and the integrity of the environment.

Water is fundamental to life, yet half the population of the world do not have access to clean water. Among other things, this leads to the propagation of illnesses that are fatal specially to children. During the current Covid pandemic, 2000 million people have been unable to diminish the contagion because of the lack of water. The increase in population, the destruction of ecosystems, contamination and climate change have further diminished the quality of water.

On this Day, we want to remind everyone of the importance of water for the School environment; it amounts to life. Not only to the wildlife that inhabit the woodland and the lake but to all in the School; it keeps us healthy. In SGS we are careful with water. Rain water is collected and filtered for the five organic vegetable gardens, providing us with fresh vegetables. These gardens are likewise fertilised with organic compost generated by the School.

We also recycle the water we use that contains only biodegradable detergents and is free from chemicals that pollute the environment.
