23^rd April is International Mother Language Day. On this day, we celebrate both the Spanish and the English languages as well as two great writers Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. The purpose of this day is to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity. The 20^{th of} March is French language day.

It is likewise Saint George’s Day, the patron saint of England. According to legend George of Cappadocia was a Christian Roman soldier who lived in a region terrorised by a dragon. The inhabitants pacified this dragon with lambs but when these ran out, they decided to send people instead. It came to the turn of the king’s daughter, but George slew the dragon with his sword. The blood that flowed turned into a red rose bush from which he plucked a rose for the princess. This rose represents the triumph of good over evil.

In some places in the world, there is a big feast in honour of Saint George and World Book Day (Language Day) otherwise known as ‘the Day of the Book and the Rose.’ A rose is offered to a loved person who in return, gives a book.
