On November 10th our school was awarded for the project ‘Natural Reserve Colegio San Jorge de Inglaterra’ as one of the best environmental practices of the country, by the BIBO Recognition, of El Espectador. Our Headmaster, Jaime Acosta, received the first prize in the category Protected Natural Areas – BIBO Academic Recognition.
BIBO started in 2011 as a long-term initiative whose objective is to promote the conservation of the forests and the ecosystems. It is an activity led by El Espectador with the technical direction of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). For the fifth year in a row they presented the BIBO Recognition to highlight and publicize the best environmental practices of the academic, productive, public, institutional and foundational sectors of Colombia, which are currently carrying out projects for the protection and conservation of forests to generate welfare of humans. In this version about 120 projects participated.
The project postulated by the School contains the creation, conservation, study and improvement of the natural reserve that is inside the School and the projects to protect and improve the connectivity of the reserve with the nearby natural reserves. The reserve in our School has a long history. We congratulate and thank all the people who contributed to the construction and care of it: especially the Acosta family, who decided to preserve and improve biodiversity in the School area.
Thanks to the team that managed the participation in the BIBO Recognition: Robert Appels (Environmental Advisor), Myriam Copete (Deputy Headmistress), Nayidve Melo (Quality Coordinator), and Erika Pacheco (Communication and Marketing Coordinator); With the support of Lina Hoyos and Leslie Carrillo in the documentation of the School Environmental Project (PRAE).
