On 17th October we joined voices with the rest of the world, to make people aware of the 800 million who live with less than $1.25 a day and have little access to food, clean water and adequate health care. (According to the United Nations Development Programme)
Saint George’s School will be carrying out a number of activities to raise awareness of the big challenge that we are faced with: to eradicate poverty in our country. This subject will be presented during assemblies and there will be a day of reflection with a special lunch on 23rd October.
With the exception of Pre-School, all the rest of the school will have lunch according to the distribution of wealth in the country; i.e., there will be 3 types of menus (upper, middle and lower class). Everybody will select a token at random that will indicate the type of lunch they will have:
3% Menu- upper class
55% Menu -middle class
42% Menu- lower class – poverty or extreme poverty
All savings made on this day will be sent to the Fundación Cigarra. With this symbolic act we wish to make everyone aware of the needs and privileges that exist in the population of Colombia.
