The ozone layer protects the Earth from the ultraviolet radiation that is not only harmful to our eyes and skin but it allows many species of plants to grow, including many we consume.
In the late 1970’s it was discovered that humanity was creating a hole in this protective shield. The global response was decisive and the ozone-depleting substances were reduced allowing the hole to heal. This shows how collective action can help our Planet.
On this the World Ozone Day we are all reminded of how important it is to continue to protect this layer.
Here are a few tips that we can do to help:
-Avoid aerosols, especially those containing CFCs
– Electrical appliances (fridges, air-conditioning units) should be correctly disposed of
– Reduce use of air -conditioning, including in cars
– Reduce fuel consumption
– Chose organic products
