La Cigarra Foundation is a centre for children and young people from low-income and displaced families in Ciudad Bolivar (Neighbourhood in the south of Bogota). It is funded by the Acosta family, who with the help of our school parents, support these children and young people who are given care, education, nutrition, leisure and guidance throughout the day while their parents are at work.
The school community constantly helps the foundation with donations of clothing, food, utensils, Christmas gifts, celebrations, etc. Most importantly these children receive visits from students and people who are able to spare a little of their time, to give affection and share special moments with them. Foreign students who come on cultural exchanges with Saint George’s School also carry out social work activities.
Additionally, the school helps some of the parents of the children in the foundation with training courses in Computing, Bakery and English.
