The tradition in the School is to start the month of May with a ceremony in honour of the Virgin Mary. It is an occasion for reflection on our own spirituality and to think about those in need. This celebration is a legacy from the founder of our school, Mrs Mary Allen de Acosta, a profoundly religious person who every year professed her devotion to the Virgin. The ceremony starts with a procession led by the children of Pre-School, followed by an assembly of the whole School. Every Thursday for the rest of the month, the little children continue to bring white flowers for the Virgin.
This month we are also raising support for ‘The Totus Tuus Little Heroes Foundation,’ the brainchild of the former pupil, Marla Nuñez. The Foundation provides shelter, care and comprehensive support for children with cancer and other chronic diseases and their parents, particularly those in need.
Let us remember that the idea behind this tradition is for you to volunteer some of your time to help those in need. This year our campaign is called ‘Todos juntos hacemos milagros’ (‘Together We Can Make Miracles Happen’). The objective is to raise funds for ‘The Totus Tuus Little Heroes’ through the sale of various articles valued at $2000.
We ask everyone in SGS to help with this noble cause and to support the Little Heroes who need us. Let’s make miracles happen! Make every $2000 count!
