We are very proud of our 11th grade students Julian Baquero and Juan Pablo Forero who on the 3rd March, won 1st place with their one- minute-long film ‘Permiso’ in the 15th Festival of Short Films of Bogotá, ‘BOGOSHORTS’. They were among 350 other participants in the festival that for the first time was part of the FICCI (Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias).
Julian and Juan Pablo are childhood friends who have always shared an interest in films and film making. It was their Spanish Literature teacher Jorge Gonzalez who told them about the Festival and encouraged them in their venture. They also got advice from Simon Acosta (the Director), Carlos Triviño (the Cinema Club Teacher), Alfonso Soriano ( Head of the Spanish Department), their friend and classmate Mariana Farfán and of course the 40 people who participated in the making of the film.
‘BOGOSHORTS’ is a festival that consists of a film marathon. It is not only an event but also a movement that was born in Bogotá and has expanded with wide ranging activities and continuous sessions. BOGOSHORTS has produced specialized media, tv, news and magazines; activities to strengthen industry CORTO EN OBRA and of course the venture of national and international BOGOSHORTS world tour among others.
Julian and Juan Pablo decided to enter their short film ‘Permiso’ under ‘Imagination’ in the Amateur Category. The participants are required to use their imagination to tell a story without cuts. Written by Julian and produced by Juan Pablo, the film shows the day to day challenges of a couple who decide to move on with their lives and start a new relationship. It took 5 hours to record plus extra time at weekends to make the one- minute film.
This award paves the way for future projects as well as giving them the opportunity to meet new people in the film industry at the Film Festival of Cartagena. This prestigious festival, the oldest in Latin America, is highly regarded by all the film media of Latin America and the world and has a special interest in the development and distribution of the Colombian film industry.
It is an honour for Julian and Juan Pablo to have received this recognition and they plan to go on learning and strengthening the SGS Cinema Club. They also serve as an inspiration of what can be accomplished if you follow a dream.
