On the 2nd February we celebrate World Wetlands Day, set up in 1976 by the Ramsar Convention. It seeks to protect the world’s ecosystems and highlights their relevance in the survival of migratory birds, some of which face extinction due to their loss of habitat.
In Colombia we have 12 wetlands designated of International Importance or Ramsar Sites of which the Complex of Wetlands in Bogotá are part. This year we are focusing on the significance of the Wetlands in the Water cycle that is fundamental to our wellbeing and that of all living species.
The environmental committee has prepared a video on the Wetlands, Water and Life and how to protect them.
